Experienced Engineering Leader

  • Committed to provable, repeatable results and measurable outcomes, Scott helps engineering teams identify and align around OKRs and find meaningful metrics to gauge success.

Scott believes engineering teams that succeed, understand the bigger company picture and are supported through vigilant efforts by management and leadership to make the mission clear and contributions to success simple even when the challenges are complex.

By getting aligned, focusing on what matters and responding appropriately to meaningful metrics, engineering teams can produce wins that lift the team and propel the company toward its goals.

  • Scott is an engineering manager (EM), software engineer with 10+ years of experience, engineering mentor and in-progress content creator passionate about helping engineering teams nail the basics and produce better outcomes.

Economic headwinds and uncertain markets brought Scott leadership opportunities to join a few pivotal engineering teams working to overcome existential performance challenges and ship fast-paced, strategic deliverables.

Scott gained hands-on experience collaborating with and leading globally located engineering teams of ~5-12 engineers, to rapidly establish practical processes, implement strategic quality bars, and find sustainable delivery velocity that doesn’t jeopardize current or future operations.

Having 13+ years of experience working with production codebases in various stages and rates of growth, Scott brings valuable engineering insights and influence that benefit engineers and cross-functional product, design and data-science partners.

By continually investing in prevention of impactful production issues through improved engineering practices and stronger test culture, Scott helps teams normalize and anticipate the cost of quality so they can confront it on their own time and terms. This results in more predictable and productive work days, fewer on-call pages, and breathing room that enables teams and engineers to improve and grow.

  • Seeing the positive effects of healthy team culture how much people and teams can grow under the right circumstances drives Scott to push himself to be a better mentor, leader and person.

Having a few good friends, mentors and leaders to help him navigate imposter syndrome and professional life, motivated Scott to pay it forward. As soon as he was able, Scott began onboarding new engineers and mentoring interns to similarly help them build skills and confidence that could unlock immeasurable potential.

Working with people requires a lot more than technical intelligence. It also requires emotional intelligence and the ability to understand and sympathize with the needs of others. Understanding that results come by putting people first, Scott invests deeply in supporting the well being and growth of those around him through emotionally intelligent leadership and strong empathy.

  • As a maker-of-things and engineer at heart, Scott remains deeply technical, curious and hands-on with code and various engineering inspired projects.

When leading engineering teams, Scott actively participates in code reviews, architecture & design discussions and whenever possible, makes minor contributions to the codebase. As a leader, he understands the importance of staying close to the code and being technically savvy.

As an engineer, Scott is highly engaged, hands-on and passionate about the craft of code. He enjoys building things with code and services, refactoring gnarly logic, creating POCs, fixing bugs and developing applications at any stage.

Scott's curiosity for technical things and desire to build doesn't stop at work. Outside of work, Scott codes web & tooling projects, designs, builds and programs microcontroller-based electronics projects and enjoys workshopping numerous product & service ideas with friends.

Some of Scott's latest technical side projects include: IOT firmware for home automation, MQTT server configuration with NodeRed to build pub-sub IOT architecture and a task even stream for managing daily household activities.
